The Scriptures tell us that this world is not our home. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, our home is in heaven. Too often though, we treat this world as if it IS our residence. Like squatters in a field, we take over a piece of property and begin to think of it as our own, and adopt the ways of those around us. What’s worse, as we see other pilgrims journeying along the way, we invite them to squat with us. The writer of Hebrews reminds us: “ 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
